The papers in this conference discuss how Information is power. The use and abuse of information, therefore, has always been part of politics since time immemorial. The recent advances in information and communication technologies, however, have radically changed the way information and politics intersect. On the one hand, the advent of the Internet and mobile devices has democratized knowledge and information, providing the people with the tools to become informed and active citizens in a vibrant democracy. On the other hand, information and communication technologies have also become instruments to create, distribute and amplify disinformation, Disinformation and hate speech, which, in turn, threaten to undermine the very foundations of democratic society.
