Global Democracy Coalition Forum 2024
To advance the global democracy agenda, the third Global Democracy Coalition Forum 2024 was convened between 11 – 15 March 2024, for a week-long celebration of democracy. This timing strategically positioned the Forum to pave the way for the third Summit for Democracy in South Korea, held on 18-20 March in Seoul.
A week-long celebration for democracy, the Global Democracy Coalition Forum 2024 was a series of landmark events in the pursuit of advancing democracy globally together with partner organizations of the Global Democracy Coalition. Hybrid regional democracy fora were held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Accra, Ghana; Barcelona, Spain; and Seoul, South Korea, culminating in a hybrid Global Democracy Forum in Seoul on 15 March. The fora provided a space for dialogue on democracy, brought together a diverse and multi-sectoral group of democracy organizations from the Global Democracy Coalition, policymakers, and democracy advocates from around the world, to explore regional perspectives on democracy, and identify solutions to the challenges faced, culminating in a global gathering, that informed the Summit for Democracy.
AMERICAS GDC FORUM
The Americas GDC Forum, took place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic at Centro Indotel on 11 March, both in person and streamed live. Participants had the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing conversation about the state of democracy in Latin America, identify common challenges and opportunities, and chart a course for advocating democratic values within the region and beyond. In collaboration with our esteemed partner, REDLAD, this forum was a cornerstone event in the Latin American democratic landscape.
EUROPE GDC FORUM
The Europe GDC Forum, took place in Barcelona, Spain at Espacio Ca l’Alier on 12 March, both in person and streamed live. Participants had the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing conversation about the state of democracy in Europe, identify common challenges and opportunities, and chart a course for advocating democratic values within the region and beyond. In collaboration with our esteemed partner, Political Watch, this forum was a cornerstone event in the European democratic landscape.
AFRICA GDC FORUM
The Africa GDC Forum, took place in Accra, Ghana at Alisa Hotel on 13 March both in person and streamed live. Participants had the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing conversation about the state of democracy in Africa, identify common challenges and opportunities, and chart a course for advocating democratic values within the region and beyond. In collaboration with our esteemed partners, Yiaga Africa, The Carter Center, Defend Defenders, and Accountability Lab – Zambia, this forum was a cornerstone event in the African democratic landscape.
ASIA GDC FORUM
The Asia GDC Forum, took place in Seoul, Republic of Korea at the East Asia Institute on 14 March both in person and streamed live. Participants had the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing conversation about the state of democracy in Asia, identify common challenges and opportunities, and chart a course for advocating democratic values within the region and beyond. In collaboration with our esteemed partner, Alliance for Vietnam´s Democracy, this forum was a cornerstone event in the Asian democratic landscape.
GLOBAL GDC FORUM
The Global GDC Forum, took place in Seoul, Republic of Korea at the The Westin Josun on 15 March, both in person and streamed live, epitomizing the commitment to democratic values within the global context. The Global Democracy Coalition Forum 2024 represented a pivotal moment for global collaboration and democratic advocacy, strategically positioned ahead of the Summit for Democracy in South Korea. With a focus on inclusivity and dialogue, the Forum convened diverse democracy organizations from around the world, providing a platform to assess the state of democracy globally.
