Opposition International, a new organization, is proud to take part in the Partners for Democracy Day organized by the International IDEA during the Third Summit of Democracies in Seoul, Korea. OI seeks to advance opposition tolerance and forbearance, through strengthening the capacity of leaders, legislators, and activists to uphold accountability and offer new ideas.
Our team in in Toronto, led by Director Owen Lippert (PhD), presented an hour-event discussing the Role of Opposition in resisting authoritarian encroachment. We offered live and pre-recorded remarks by scholars and practitioners from such places London, Austria, Dhaka, Bangkok and Harare.
We reviewed our current activities such as the Opposition Performance Index, our guide to diaspora donations to parties in the Ukraine and importantly Russia, and demonstrated a simple to build AI program for use in forensic research. We coordinated the event from the Bigger and Bolder Room of the Centre for Social Innovation at 192 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, starting just before 4:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.
