The Global Democracy Coalition (GDC) will co-host with Club de Madrid the panel “Reclaiming Civic Space: Participation and Multilateral Reform for Democratic Resilience” at the Palacio Villa Suso.
As global challenges put pressure on democratic institutions, this discussion will examine how democratic renewal and multilateral reform must go hand in hand to protect civic space and rebuild trust. The session will bring together a diverse mix of voices, including former Heads of State, young leaders from the Global South, civil society representatives, and policymakers, to generate concrete proposals for strengthening public participation in global governance. The panel will spotlight how international and national frameworks can be reformed to uphold democratic values, engage citizens across borders, and deliver accountable governance.
