Mainstreaming Participation: Lessons Learned and the Path Forward

An interactive session with practitioners and experts on how to ensure innovative democracy practices become the rule, not the exception.  In this session, participants will learn about the importance of creating the legal and institutional frameworks necessary to make sure that innovative democracy practices become the rule and not the exception. We will interact with practitioners and experts about their main wins and challenges and see how it works in real-life situations.

Topics will include:

Group 1: Interactive tools to make mainstreaming easier. Using the Participation Playbook to walk through this process.
Group 2 From innovations to successful mainstreaming – what is needed from government – success stories revisited
Group 3: Building the Case for Participation: The Power of Value Propositions and Stakeholder Influence to Drive Mainstreaming Participation Reform.

Speakers include Katju Holkeri, Head of Unit at the Ministry of Finance of Finland; María Pía Junquera, General Director of Citizen Participation at the Ayuntamiento de Madrid; Typhanie Scognamiglio, Chief of the Interministerial Center for Public Participation at the Government of France; and Ahmad Rifai, Executive Director at Kota Kita Foundation, among others such as Amanda Luz and Greta Ríos from People Powered, Nil Homedes from Decidim Barcelona, and colleagues from the Institute of Public Finance.
