An ongoing normalization of extremist beliefs, coupled with social media platforms’ recalcitrance to take appropriate action, has manifested in popular influencers monetizing neo-Nazi, Holocaust denial, and other antisemitic content on Instagram, which has an estimated two billion monthly active users worldwide. These influencers include Hayden McDougall, Dylan Shane, Jake Shields, and Myron Gaines, who use their accounts and collaborations to boost bigoted content from each other. They also boost bigoted content from influencers who are banned from Instagram, such as Holocaust denier and antisemitic podcaster Nick Fuentes, as a way to subvert Instagram rules. They all spread extreme antisemitism on their multiple platforms (usually coupled with misogyny and other forms of bigotry), and monetize their hatred by guiding users to their online storefronts, which feature antisemitic and neo-Nazi merchandise.
