YORJA contributes to strengthening democracy by promoting accountability, inclusive governance, and citizen participation, particularly among young people who are often excluded from formal political and justice processes. The organisation supports democratic consolidation by engaging in policy development and advocacy around the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP), ensuring that justice processes are participatory, transparent, and responsive to citizens’ needs. Through its research and policy briefs, YORJA provides evidence-based recommendations that inform governance reforms, reparations frameworks, and post-conflict recovery strategies. Additionally, the organisation builds the capacity of young leaders and civil society actors to engage in democratic processes, advocate for rights, and hold institutions accountable. By fostering dialogue between citizens, governments, and regional institutions, YORJA strengthens trust and reinforces democratic values across Africa.
