Call for Applications: “Best Practice in Citizen Participation” Award

Our coalition partner United Cities Local Governments, in partnership with the International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (OIDP), is inviting local and regional governments, non-profits, and individuals working in collaboration with governments to showcase their work in participatory democracy.

The OIDP “Best Practice in Citizen Participation” Award recognizes initiatives that advance inclusion, civic engagement, democratic innovation, open government, and community empowerment. This is your opportunity to gain international visibility for practices that make democracy more inclusive, equitable, and effective.

Submissions can focus on one of five categories: Building more democratic and peaceful cities, Urban management and public space, Gender and care, Ecological transition and environment, or Civic tech. Each selected practice will be published on the ParticipateOIDP platform, highlighting your impact to a global audience.

Applications are open until 15 March 2026. Finalists will be assessed by a jury, with winners announced at the 25th OIDP Conference in Krakow, 21–23 September 2026.
