In a statement released on August 17th, 2023, La Plataforma Nicaragüense de Redesde de ONG condemned the recent actions taken by the Ortega and Murillo regime and called for international solidarity with the academic community of Nicaragua. Citing the closure and confiscation of Universidad Centroamericana (UCA), as well as the forced closure of 27 other universities and more than 3400 civil society organizations, La Plataforma requests assistance with identifying short- to medium-term support mechanisms for those most affected by the actions of the Ortega-Murillo regime, including teachers, administrators, support staff, students and family members.
