Consultation | How to regulate AI through and for Democracy? – September 22, 2024 | 2PM to 5PM EST

Date: September 22, 2024 from 2pm to 5pm

Location: Peninsula Park, Gantry Plaza State Park 4-44 47th Rd, Queens, New York City, NY 11101

Host: Atlas Movement

The Summit of the Future is taking place in New York City, where some of the biggest threats to our future are barely being mentioned. Think of Artificial Intelligence, that will not only reshape the world but has the potential to seriously harm democracy. However, citizens are not involved in discussions and decisions on how to regulate this technology. This is extremely problematic.

As such, we are hosting a grassroots consultation to hear from the people of New York what they want the United Nations to do when it comes to regulating artificial intelligence. Through a three-hours-long event, we will learn, debate, and agree on a set of recommendations in a democratic manner. But it won’t stop there, the Atlas team will then advocate for it!

What better way to celebrate the International Day of Democracy than by understanding how to solve a threat to democracy itself, in a democratic manner?!

Join this event to develop radical ideas on how the United Nations and governments across the planet should regulate Artificial Intelligence to benefit and protect Democracy! The opening panel will include our co-founder Colombe Cahen-Salvador and AI and Democracy experts (tba). The event will then be focused on you and your ideas: we will work together to come up with solutions!

This is a free event hosted in partnership with the Global Democracy Coalition to mark IDD2024. The location can host up to 100 people, so participants will be admitted on a first come first serve basis. Soft drinks will be provided during the event.

What is a Grassroots Consultation? It’s a participative event to harness your ideas, vision, and passion to solve the most urgent threats of our times. The United Nations is too remote, isolated and out of touch with the people of our planet. Through this work, we change this, involving individuals and communities from around the planet. And we mean it: our teams of volunteers will then take those ideas, work on them and we will push them in our electoral campaign.

How can you participate? This consultation will take place both online and in person! So register, and we will send you all the information.

What will happen? We will involve you to create a genuine political revolution. We know it may be daunting to be challenged with coming up with ideas to save the world, but we have your back. We have facilitated many successful consultations before. Together, we will 1) Identify the core sticking points/issues, 2) Prioritize the topics to be discussed, 3) develop concrete solutions that we will push forward in our UN campaign. The event is set to last 3 hours.
