Global cooperation on democracy is navigating a period of increasing complexity. Democratic backsliding, declining trust in institutions, and rising polarization are reshaping how democratic support is understood and delivered. At the same time, citizens across regions continue to call for more inclusive, responsive, and accountable systems.
In this evolving context, there is growing recognition that advancing democracy requires broader coalitions that go beyond government-led approaches, engaging civil society, local actors, philanthropy, academia, and the private sector.
International IDEA, together with partners of the Global Democracy Coalition, is contributing to these efforts through a range of global and regional initiatives. This panel, taking place alongside a wider international gathering in Barcelona, will provide a space to reflect on how diverse actors can collaborate more effectively to support resilient and inclusive democratic systems.
