In recent years, West Africa has experienced several unconstitutional changes of government carried out by the military, as well as constitutional revisions to avoid term limits for elected presidents. These changes have destabilized these countries and undermined the democratic values hard-won after long years of struggle. Military coups in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and changes to term limits in Guinea, Ivory Coast or the attempt in Senegal, what have we learned from these experiences and what perspective for the region?
