AD797: The Togolese deplore the economic situation of the country as well as their living conditions

Togo’s economy remains dependent on the rest of the world, which makes it vulnerable to current crises. The decline in global demand for raw materials, coupled with the reduction in supplies of energy and petroleum products, mainly imported, have accentuated inflation and increased the cost of living. This situation weighs on a vulnerable population experiencing food insecurity (World Food Program, 2022). Regarding the poverty rate, it is estimated at 42.4% in 2023 and it is hoped that it will drop substantially to reach 36.1% in 2026 (World Bank, 2024).
