In 2016, the European Endowment for Democracy supported more than one hundred projects and pro-democracy activities in 18 countries neighbouring the European Union. As a demand-driven organisation, we are proud and privileged to have supported so many defenders of freedom and democracy in their quest for dignity, justice and better societies. This annual report provides a comprehensive overview of EED’s work in what has been a severely testing year for democracy activists and human rights defenders – not only within our mandated geographical reach of the European neighbourhood, but across the globe too.
