Many African countries are naturally gifted in mineral resources but cursed by the greed of the individuals occupying political office. Many African countries do not control their mining sector. The targeted minerals include gold, diamond, oil, tanzanite, and weapons-rich uranium.
Lately, however, so-called dirty money is reportedly making its way into financing political parties and election campaigns in different African countries for regime survival, so that upon assuming political office, they can protect their illegal businesses. It is not uncommon for campaign finance donations to be leveraged to capture the state and/or exert influence on the legislature with a view to sabotage or avoid investigations into their illegal activities.
