European Partnership for Democracy recently released the first-ever Global Youth Participation Index (GYPI): a groundbreaking tool that measures how effectively young people are able to participate in democratic life across more than 140 countries. This index goes beyond surface-level engagement to examine the full spectrum of youth participation: from civic freedoms and political representation, to electoral inclusion and the socio-economic factors that shape young people’s ability to engage. Built on youth-led research and reliable global data, the GYPI paints a nuanced picture of where youth voice is flourishing, and where it is being silenced.
