This document analyses how instead of witnessing a worldwide “federalist revolution” and continued democratization, we have reasons to be more skeptical about the future of federalism and democracy. Many developments and conditions can cause a crisis or failure of democracy and federalism. Political polarization is certainly among the most significant symptoms.
