Gender-based violence (GBV) can take place behind closed doors when no one else is watching. It can occur between a husband and wife, a boyfriend and girlfriend, lovers, partners and other relationships. We are sharing the story about a woman who is a former singer and performer – her dream career. Yet, married to a politician and election candidate; her husband denied her from continuing to pursue her desired career and instead forced and coerced her into a job in politics. GBV is not only marked by physical scars, but also emotional and mental scars through the control and coercion of a woman by their partner – leading to dependence on an abusive partner and then the woman’s entrapment within this cycle of violence.
