Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation Processes: Learning from Global Experiences

On April 21st, the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in collaboration with MHCR, the Saami Council, and the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations organized an event to discuss and highlight international Indigenous truth and reconciliation commissions. Speakers included representatives from the Assembly of First Peoples of Victoria, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Norway, the Truth and Healing Tribunal of Alaska, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of the Sámi Peoples in Finland. The goal of the event was to learn from the challenges and successes of these processes and reflect on the lessons to see how they can inform future truth and reconciliation commissions.
