This report explores how a year after historic protests in Cuba, prospects for the island remain sobering. On July 11, 2021, Cuban civil society took to the streets to demonstrate against the precarious situation in the country that had endured for decades, and which has worsened significantly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The situation of the Cubans hasn’t improved much since then – on the contrary: a constantly deteriorating economic situation is driving more and more Cubans to leave their country.
