“We’re from Kenya and we are in love. But being queer in Kenya could mean going to jail.”

Today marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) – a day to raise awareness of the human rights of LGBTIQA+ people. We’re sharing the story of Atieno and her girlfriend – a queer couple based in Kenya – where same-sex intimacy remains criminalised and violence, discrimination and hate continue to be daily experiences for many members of the Kenyan LGBTQI+ community.
