Democracy International, under USAID’s Community Resilience Initiative (CRI), works with civil society organizations to reduce the victimization of Venezuelan refugees and migrants in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) and enhance direct, positive engagement between T&T nationals and Venezuelans to foster community development and resilience. Ryu Dan Dojo Empowerment Foundation provides language classes and holistic positive youth development support under their Sports + (Plus) program, which blends martial arts with life and social skills training. In this youth profile, Alysia describes her positive experiences in the Ryu Dan classes and how interacting with Venezuelan migrants has helped her gain a greater understanding of their experiences and has given her many new friendships.
