Electorate engagement between politicians and voters has not seen much innovation in Australia for quite some time while the status quo seems not to be working for anyone particularly well.

New Democracy launched a new project and addressed the issue by engaging and encouraging local communities to submit an idea online that would be evaluated by a jury of 30 randomly chosen people within the electorate for them to recommend the one best idea they most wanted their MP to pursue. The initiative represented a great opportunity for people of very different ages, backgrounds, levels of wealth and life experiences to work together.

This resulted in an increase in political participation and showed MPs a new way of receiving feedback and collecting data from a diverse range of voters. The project has turned into a blueprint that many more Australian MPs will soon follow.
