The Horn of Africa Youth Network contributes to strengthening and advancing democracy by empowering youth as active agents of change, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to participate meaningfully in democratic processes, civic engagement, and policy advocacy. Through its capacity-strengthening initiatives, HoAYN builds the leadership and advocacy skills of young people, enabling them to influence decision-making and hold public institutions accountable. The organization actively participates in African Union (AU) Observation Missions and joint AU-IGAD-COMESA election observation missions, promoting transparent, credible, and inclusive electoral processes across the region. Additionally, HoAYN engages in strategic advocacy with IGAD member states, pushing for the adoption of youth-inclusive policies, democratic reforms, and accountability frameworks that strengthen governance systems. By combining regional engagement, evidence-based advocacy, and youth empowerment, HoAYN ensures that young people are not only represented in democratic processes but also drive tangible change in governance, policy formulation, and democratic consolidation across East and Horn of Africa Region.
