Fall 2021, a few Dutch organisations initiated an Open Letter to the Dutch Government, prior to the First Summit for Democracy. That marked the beginning of an initiative group “Democracy under Threat”, that organized meetings with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Interior, a big conference (November 2022), a series of meetings parallel to the Second Summit for Democracy (March 2023). The group published a critical assessment of the MFA’s policy document on Human Rights, Democracy and International Legal Order (September 2023) and is currently preparing for a public campaign related to the upcoming elections of European Parliament.

This initiative group decided to develop into a fully-fledged Netherlands Democracy Coalition. Key aspects of the NDC (mission, vision, ToC, organizational structure) are being discussed in Spring 2024.
