In the past year, large-scale demonstrations have swept across countries in Asia and Africa. At the forefront is a new generation: Gen Z. Under a common symbol – the pirate flag with the straw hat – young people are uniting in a stand-off against corruption, nepotism and a future that looks set to be inferior to their parents’.
In several countries, protests have already toppled governments and paved the way for new rulers. In other places, demonstrations continue – intense, persistent and with no signs of abating.
