Wider Coalition

The Wider Coalition is the heart of the Global Democracy Coalition, a growing, diverse and dynamic community of over 150 democracy organizations from every region of the world working to strenghten democracy in all its forms. Our partners include civil society networks, think tanks, intergovernmental institutions, academic centers, youth-led movements, and media organizations from across the globe. What brings us together is a shared commitment to democratic values and a belief that we can achieve more by working in concert than in isolation.

Being part of the Wider Coalition means more than joining a network or attending meetings. It means becoming part of an ecosystem where strategy is co-created, resources are shared, and leadership is distributed. Coalition partners do not simply participate in activities; they help shape them. They lead regional democracy forums, co-design global campaigns, co-own podcast episodes and storytelling projects, and collaborate on advocacy efforts that elevate underrepresented voices and amplify grassroots innovations. The Coalition also redistributes funding to support partners’ work on the ground, creating space for local actors to lead within a global platform.

At a time when the democracy field is often fragmented, the Wider Coalition offers a space to connect, align, and act with a sense of shared purpose. Here, collaboration is not symbolic but structural. Visibility is shared rather than centralized. Power flows through the Coalition, not to the top. This is the Coalition’s strength: it turns collective ambition into tangible, coordinated impact and remains open to all who share its mission.

How can my organization become a partner of the Coalition?

A request is submitted to the Coalition coordinators, through a questionnaire. All applications will then be sent to the Coalition´s Steering Group for vetting. For more information, please email the GDC Coordinator Elisenda Ballesté Buxó (e.ballestebuxo@idea.int).
